Our Social Impact Courses are designed with university staff to combine virtual consulting projects and cultural immersion in an international destination.
During the academic semester, students teams work on a strategic challenges virtually with nonprofits and social enterprise clients in different countries. They also discover the world of social innovation and entrepreneurship through classes taught by both university professors and Emzingo-U facilitators.
At the end of the semester, students then experience full immersion themselves by traveling to the countries where these non-profits and social enterprises are located. Students work in person with their clients, and the communities they serve, to finalize and present their findings and recommendations. Students also discover the social and economic fabric of the selected country and explore opportunities within the social impact sector.

ACADEMIC COURSES AND INTERNATIONAL IMMERSION PROGRAMS
Students work in teams on virtual consulting projects, which concludes with in-person presentations for local nonprofits and social enterprises in the selected country. Emzingo-U staff and facilitators and university professor’s oversee the development of the projects and deliverables. Emzingo-U also sources local experts to offer virtual lectures relevant to the country selected.

Sample Emzingo-U workshops are included below, which are given in addition to lectures on social entrepreneurship, business at the bottom-of-the-pyramid, and the social and economic history of the chosen country.
SOCIAL BUSINESS MODELING
Participants learn how to use the social business model canvas to design, evaluate, and recommend improvements to business models with a social impact, be it their own business or an organization/business that they are supporting.
How has our definition of leadership changed in the las decade? What are the skills that future leaders will need to be successful in our changed world? Focussing on these major questions, the Emzingo designed IP explores the major failures in corporate leadership of the last few decades as well as the key competencies that we hope will shape the future of bussines and how it engages with society at large.
CultureFLEX improves students’ understanding and ability to work across cultural, geographic, functional, and age differences by recognizing and challenging existing paradigms. We explore different cultural norms and explain how to act and interact with others of different countries and cultures.
SOCIAL INNOVATION AND DESIGN
Workshops range from a few hours to a full week. Participants learn and apply design thinking, human centered design, and Theory U to solve a challenge in the local community or for a nom-profit or social enterprise. Students and other stakeholders work together to discover creative and innovative solutions to the presented challenge.
EQ & SELF AWARENESS
This session emphasizes reflection, coaching, and an empathetic approach to problem solving. Hard skills are a given when it comes to performing at school or work. What sets you apart is your ability to recognize and leverage your own strengths, and it is this self-awareness that enables you to succeed persona lly and professionally.
Students have the opportunity to travel to different locations and present their projects in-situ to local nonprofits and social enterprises. This travel component can take place at the end of the semester, or during their academic breaks (Winter, Spring, Summer, etc.). Emzingo-U coordinates travel, which includes visits with local social enterprises, responsible businesses, and cultural and historical attractions, along with all logistics. Students meet with their local organization for several working sessions and present their findings at the end of their stay.
